Dark Horse's Creepy #17 brings another month of dark and twisted storytelling and artwork. This month features Paul Tobin, (Colder, Marvel Adventures, Prometheus) as the headliner. The two main stories of interest are ‘The Human Condition’ and ‘Arrangement of Skin’; both equally disturbing and there is a third story, ‘The Duel of the Monsters’, which struggles.

In ‘The Human Condition’ we examine the dark and twisted world of a anti-annalist themes and the balance of what life means. Tobin rocks this story with a witty and dark look into the deepest of humanities weaknesses.

In  ‘Arrangement of Skin’ we follow a taxidermist as he tries to find a balance between his own art form and his own life.

In ‘The Duel of the Monsters’ we are shown the story of Werewolf vs. Vampire.

The artwork varies from story to story, and while the art styles are a little dated in the last two stories, the styles still work for the stories being told.

The shining gem in this book is ‘The Human Condition’. Not only is the story deep and fascinating, the artwork is a nice moody match for the story being told.

All in all I grade this book a solid B.

Until next time... Don't trade using your own skin as collateral.
