Hit Girl #1 is supposed to pick up where Kick Ass 1 leaves off. So Mindy wakes up, kisses her mother and stepfather goodbye and heads to school where she is treated horribly by a group a popular girls. She works with David, A.K.A. Kick-Ass, to work out her plan to take down Ralphie.

Now this is supposed to be an honest review, so I will be honest. I never read any of the Kick-Ass books. I did watch the movies and enjoyed them immensely. So when I saw this book for a dollar at my LCS I thought, yeah, I will pick it up, simply because "The Little Bitch" is my favorite character in the franchise. Who doesn't love Mindy.

But because of my tainted view into the Kick-Ass universe (movie based), this book left me a little lost. I was lost because most of book's plot points (albeit altered) were part of the movie Kick-Ass 2 (the movie). So I decided to enjoy the book for what it was to me, the story of Hit Girl and I did enjoy it.

I can see why Kick-Ass/Hit-Girl are so popular in the comic book world. The stories are gritty, well told and don't pull punches in story or art. The artwork is in your face and well done. What's not to like.

All in all, I grade this book a solid A. Simply as a stand alone story or as part of a continuing arc, it is a worthwhile read.

Until next time... Happy Ass-Kicking
